A former staff member has come forward with claims that Kanye West had intentions to construct a jail at Donda Academy, the private school he founded.
The ex-employee, who worked at Kanye’s Yeezy and Donda Academy enterprises, has filed a lawsuit against the rapper, accusing him of creating a hostile work environment and causing emotional distress to the staff intentionally.
Trevor Phillips, who worked with the musician from November 2022 to August 2023, alleged that he faced discrimination, harassment, and retaliation directly from Kanye. Phillips further claimed that Kanye, aged 46, displayed discriminatory behavior towards Black employees and students at the school.
According to court documents filed by Trevor’s legal representatives, it was evident that Kanye treated Black staff members far worse than their white counterparts. The documents describe instances where Kanye would shout and mistreat Black employees during classes, while showing a different attitude towards white staff. The lawsuit highlights Kanye’s alleged preference for berating Phillips, a Black individual, with disdainful behavior.
The legal complaint also includes allegations that Kanye mentioned to two school children his desire for them to shave their heads and his plan to incorporate a jail on the school premises, implying that the students could be confined in cages.
